Climate Launch Pad 2021
As the world’s largest green business ideas competition, ClimateLaunchpad has inspired more than 6,700 ideas and contributed to the creation of 1,900 startups, generating over 8,000 jobs globally. With the slogan “Saving the world one start-up at a time,” the program offers unparalleled opportunities for innovators seeking to create sustainable impact.
The Climate Launch pad competition 2021 is part of a broader initiative managed by the Climate-KIC International Foundation, which is dedicated to accelerating climate innovation across Africa. The program leverages support from national leads such as Impact Hub Kigali and partnerships with organizations like GIZ, enabling entrepreneurs to transition from ideation to incubation and acceleration. This collaboration underscores the importance of cross-sectoral efforts in addressing climate challenges and building resilient ecosystems for green businesses.
Fostering Green Innovation for a Sustainable Future
Impact Hub Kigali proudly hosted the 2021 ClimateLaunchpad national final competition in Rwanda, identifying and supporting innovative climate tech solutions poised to drive Africa towards a net-zero future. Supported by the Climate-KIC International Foundation and the German Development Cooperation, this event highlights the commitment to nurturing climate-positive businesses through training, mentorship, and funding access.
Winners of the 2021 National Final
Three outstanding Rwandan startups were crowned winners and advanced to the Regional Finals in Mozambique:
- Glassland Inc: Specializing in recycling glass waste into unique, sustainable products such as countertops, tiles, and vanity shelves.
- Second Life Storage: Pioneering energy systems made from batteries salvaged from e-waste or retired electric vehicles, providing eco-friendly power solutions for buildings.
- Serenis Technologies: Innovating a liquefied gas metering system that enables users to prepay for cooking gas via mobile or online platforms.
31 Hours of technical support delivered to startups & 2 Months of free coworking space provided to the winners.
