The IGNITE Challenge
is back
By combining targeted grants, tailored technical assistance, market linkages and visibility, the challenge will accelerate up to six growth-stage high-impact ventures to tackle key gaps such as increased production, enhanced post-harvest processes, access to finance opportunities, and access to markets.
What the program offers
Funding
Up to $24,000 in equity-free funding per venture
Acceleration support
5 months of curated technical support, coaching and masterclasses to strengthen skills and business gaps.
Investment readiness + Demo Day
Structured investment and pitch preparation and exposure to the ecosystem through a Demo Day platform.
Market linkages + visibility
Connections to investors and key stakeholders, access to community events and collaboration opportunities with Farmer Service Centres (FSCs).
We are looking for Startups, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and cooperatives with commercially viable solutions to strengthen the food system and contribute to job creation and improvement, especially for young women.
While all food systems solutions are invited, solutions addressing the following areas along the agrifood value chain, and enabling young women to participate as entrepreneurs or employees, are particularly encouraged to apply:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
All applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Business registration: Valid registration/certificate of incorporation and at least 2 years of operation in Rwanda
Have proof of a revenue-generating business with proven market traction
Be a team of at least three full-time members dedicated to the startup/SME/cooperative, including the founding team
At least 50% of the founding and/or senior management team must be from Rwanda/East Africa
The entity has to have existing key operations in Rwanda
Be committed to support, provide mentorship and share learnings with peers and Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) participating in the program.
Youth-led businesses, particularly those led by young women are especially encouraged to apply. A business is considered youth-led if the CEO/Managing Director or at least one founder is under 35 years of age at the time of application.
A business is considered to be led by a young woman if a woman under 35 serves as CEO/Managing Director or holds significant decision-making authority as a founder.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
Applications to the IGNITE Challenge 4.0 will be assessed based on the following criteria:
Innovation: The solution addresses a food systems challenge in a clear and innovative way
Impact: The venture contributes to stronger food systems and job creation, particularly for young women
Financial sustainability: The venture has a viable business model and clear potential for long-term sustainability
Scalability: The solution shows strong potential for growth and expansion
Team: The team brings relevant experience and the capacity to grow the venture
These criteria help identify ventures with the potential to drive impact and scale their solutions.
Pre-acceleration Phase
- Bootcamp (3 days): Up to 12 ventures join training with experts/coaches to strengthen skills such as storytelling, leadership, sales, and pitch readiness.
- Pitch session: The bootcamp ends with pitches to shortlist up to 8 ventures.
- Due diligence + proposals: Up to 8 ventures go through on-site due diligence to assess eligibility and program-fit, and submit proposals and budgets for the acceleration phase
Acceleration Phase
Up to 6 ventures are selected for the acceleration journey, which includes:
Technical assistance and funding
- Business diagnostics + scaling plan development
- Tailored technical assistance based on scaling needs
- 1:1 coaching and mentorship
- Thematic masterclasses
- Equity-free funding up to $24,000 per venture, plus guidance to implement the funds and scaling plans
Partnership and ecosystem opportunities
- Networking events and peer-to-peer sessions + connections to potential investors
- Peer mentorship: ventures act as peer mentors to Farmer Service Centres (FSCs), sharing lessons, tools, and insights, and exploring collaboration opportunities.
Demo Day Event
The program ends with a Demo Day to boost visibility and exposure.

Kura Na AgTech 2.0 Acceleration Program
The second edition of the Kura Na AgTech program supports scalable, innovative agritech startups with a strong focus on benefiting smallholder farmers, particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
By combining catalytic grants, tailored technical assistance, coaching, investment readiness support, and facilitated market linkages, the program accelerates up to four high-potential agritech solutions addressing key challenges for smallholder farmers in Rwanda, including productivity and market access, financial inclusion, post-harvest losses, climate resilience and regenerative practices.
Implemented by Swisscontact in partnership with Impact Hub Kigali, the program selects up to 10 startups for Pitch Interviews and 4 for the Acceleration Phase, running from April to October 2026.

Coaching & Masterclasses
Bi-weekly check-ins plus group sessions on investment readiness, Impact Measurement, Leadership, inclusive design, and market access,- with topics refined to each cohort’s needs.
Ecosystem Linkages
Facilitated introductions to impact investors, cooperatives, and development partners – plus access to follow-on funding opportunities
We are looking for Agritech Startups and Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with commercially viable, scalable technological solutions in the agricultural sector that are already operational and demonstrating early traction
We strongly encourage agricultural innovations that deliver meaningful impact for smallholder farmers particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities – across the following focus areas:
Digital platforms and market access
Technology-driven platforms that connect smallholder farmers to markets, buyers, and agricultural services while ensuring fair pricing and market transparency.
Smart farming, Inputs and enhanced productivity
Technologies and digital tools that improve farm productivity, enable data-driven decision-making, and optimize agricultural operation.
Agri fin-tech and access to services
Technological solutions that foster access to finance, insurance, and essential agricultural services for underserved rural communities.
Climate-smart logistics & cold chain
Energy-efficient transportation approaches and smart logistics solutions that reduce costs, minimize waste, and help smallholder farmers get their products to market efficiently.
Post-harvest loss reduction & storage
Innovative solutions that prevent or reduce post-harvest losses and provide accessible, affordable storage options for smallholder farmers.
Circular & regenerative agriculture
Solutions that support soil amendment, waste valorization, and regenerative agricultural practices to enhance climate resilience and sustainability.
Geographic Focus: While applications from across Rwanda are welcome, priority will be given to startups currently operating in or demonstrating credible, near-term expansion plans to Bugesera, Rwamagana, Musanze, and southern districts other than Muhanga. This ensures concentrated ecosystem support and synergies across supported ventures.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
All applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Business registration: Valid registration/certificate of incorporation and at least 2 years of operation in Rwanda
Agritech focus: Offer a technological solution addressing challenges in Rwanda’s agricultural sector.
Have proof of a revenue-generating business with proven market traction and early customers.
Team: Be a team of at least three full-time members dedicated to the startup.
Commitment to collaboration: Be committed to actively participating in the 4-month acceleration program, engaging in peer learning, and sharing learnings with fellow startups
Women-led businesses are especially encouraged to apply.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
The evaluation process for the Kura Na Agtech Acceleration Program will be based on the following criteria:
Innovation: The solution applies technology in an innovative way to address challenges in Rwanda’s agricultural sector
Impact Potential: The solution demonstrates strong potential to benefit smallholder farmers, particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Financial sustainability: The startup has a clear business model, proven revenue streams, and is financially sustainable.
Traction: The startup shows market validation with early customers, active users, and/or demonstrated farmer engagement.
Scalability: The startup has strong potential to scale and reach underserved rural markets across Rwanda.
Team capability: The team combines relevant technical and business expertise and demonstrates commitment to scaling the solution.
Inclusion and accessibility: The solution considers affordability, accessibility, and the specific needs of rural women, youth and persons with disabilities.
Applications are reviewed by Impact Hub Kigali and Swisscontact. While we welcome applicants working across various agritech focus areas, preference will be given to startups that already show traction and market validation, have existing operations in Rwanda, and demonstrate clear potential to reach smallholder farmers at scale.
